ITINERARY
1st: Mehrangarh Fort Duration: 2 Hours
Start this tour by first visiting the Jodhpur’s star attraction, Mehrangarh Fort. Build by Rao Jodha in 1460, the imposing structure stands perpendicularly on a hill which is 125 meters above the bluish skyline of the Jodhpur city. It will take around 30 minutes to reach the fort from your hotel. Around 9:30 am you will start exploring the fort site. Famous for being one of the largest forts in India, this fort houses astonishingly beautiful palaces including Moti Mahal, Phool Mahal, and Sheesh Mahal. You don’t need any ticket to explore these palaces, but if you wish to visit the museum inform your guide and pay separately for the entry ticket. This museum contains the historical collections of Jodhpur Rajputs along with antique artilleries. Spend 2 hours to explore the site and leave for next stop around 11:30 am.
2nd: Clock Tower Duration: 1.5 Hours
Your next stop is only 9 minutes away from Mehrangarh Fort. Also known as the Ghanta Ghar, Clock Tower is situated in one of the busiest areas of the blue city, Sadar Bazaar. Built in 1880, this century-old clock tower has turned into the famous landmark of the city. It’s also famous for being the picturesque site, and the credit goes to the triple gateway located at its southern and northern end. Click some pictures while roaming around the bustling outlets of Sardar Market where you’ll found an explosion of color everywhere. Explore the market and its crowded alleyways to buy handicrafts and silver jewelry. Only half-hour is scheduled for shopping. After exploring the market, stop half-hour for lunch and move to next destination around 1:00 pm.
3rd: Umaid Bhawan Palace Duration: 1 Hour
Your next stop will be the beautiful Umaid Bhawan Palace which is only 16-minutes away from Clock Tower. Famous among locals for being the Taj Mahal of Jodhpur and worldwide for being one of the largest private homes, Umaid Bhavan Palace was built by Maharaja Umaid Singh in 1929. Its alluring architecture was designed by British architect Henry Lanchester- the recognized architect of that time. It took almost 16 years to give this palace an impressive gesture. Also, explore the museum (1/2 hour) present at one side of the building that’s full of art-deco designs and an antique collection of elaborate clocks. And do not forget to see the polished cars of Maharaja displayed in front of the museum. Leave for next stop around 2:00 pm.
4th: Jaswant Thada Duration: 1 Hour
Take a short drive of 20-minutes to reach your next excursion which is Jaswant Thada. Built in the end of 19th century, this structure was built as the memorial to give a tribute to the ruler Jaswant Singh. The main cenotaph was given the shape of the temple with intricately carved marble stone. Jaswant Singh, who ruled Jodhpur, made several efforts to bring down the level of crime in the state and work for the welfare of the economy. It’s located near a small lake. The around view, the lake, and the city from above view from this palace are superb. You can click various pictures with your family and friends to take back some beautiful memories with you. Leave Jaswant Thada around 3:30 pm to explore next site.
5th: Mandore Gardens Duration: 30 Minutes
Madore Gardens is situated 9 km north from the center of the Jodhpur city, and 20-minutes away from the Jaswant Thada. You’ll reach Mondore Gardens around 4:00 pm. This garden consists of the rock terraces. You can see different varieties of dark-red cenotaphs of Jodhpur rules inside the garden. Near the cenotaphs, you will find the hall of heroes. This place has been dedicated to different deities and heroes of the Rajput dynasty in the form of statues and paintings in bright colors. Apart from this hall, you can also see “The Shrine of Three Hundred Million Gods” which is filled with brightly colored paintings of various Hindu Gods. The sightseeing ends around 4:30 pm.
